PIN the Tail on the Amigurumi Donkey (Crochet Advice #2)

If you haven’t been to Pinterest yet, or you’ve been trying to avoid it for fear of it becoming another time wasting vortex, just give it up. Ask for an invitation and start using it. If used properly, it will save you time in the long run since it an amazing organizational tool. You will most likely learn something every time you go and you will be inspired to be better at whatever it is you do. On the flip side, you will writhe with envy, be astonished at your own increativity and probably spend a few minutes sitting in the despair and darkness that will consume your soul when you see how mundane your life is compared to this photographic assault of perfection. My advice? Snap out if it, get over it and let Pinterest make your life easier and more colorful.

Here, I’m going to show you how I’ve been using Pinterest as a tool for inspiration, organization and archiving my crochet hopes, patterns, links, tools and yes, even envies.

I’ve created several boards that are dedicated to crochet alone. Crochet Hats, Crochet Embellishments, Crochet Granny Squares, etc.. As I research and peruse on the internet, I can “Pin” any links, tutorials or photos that I will want to come back to later. Or, if I want to share them with someone, I don’t have to dig it out of my “favorites folder” on my hard drive and try to remember the link and site. . . you know where I’m going with this.  So I now use Pinterest boards to grab and keep my favorite internet items and anyone following me, or following just my crochet boards, will see these links on their homepage feed and then choose to save them on their own boards for future reference or just let the pictures slide on by.

Pinterest is new to me so I’m still figuring it all out and I don’t have hundreds and hundreds of “pins” yet but I can see how over time this will happen. I think a key to finding good stuff to pin is to “follow” folks and boards that you already find interesting. If you want crochet links, follow lots of people that crochet and you will see that they have been doing a lot of digging around on the web and finding stuff for you! All you have to do is repin these posts to one of your boards.

So here are some of my Crochet Boards on Pinterest:

You can choose to follow someone’s specific boards and receive just the feeds that you are interested in, or you can follow a person to see everything they pin. I will be using Pinterest to share a lot and you are welcome to follow along, but you may not be interested in my Food or Recipe boards, so you don’t have to follow them at all. It’s very adaptable and very user friendly.

In Summary: I use Pinterest as a tool, and I will be using it in this series to share resources for learning about crochet. I encourage you to get an account going so you can be inspired (and tempted). If you need an invitation, please leave a comment to let me know and I will gladly send one off to you.
