Fall Favorites

What are your Fall Favorites? Mine are pumpkins and being able to work on crochet blankets without worrying about heatstroke. There’s also baking and hot drinks. Fall is a great time to celebrate life!

We visited a place called Gentry’s Farm in Franklin, Tennessee last weekend and picked our own pumpkins! This is a new process for this city girl, and it was a blast. The kids had a great time ‘hunting’ down pumpkins and even getting the cool ‘green ones’ (ehem, unripe but we’ll mark that down as another thing to laugh about in the years to come).

In the meantime, I’m enjoying getting back into the habit of drinking hot tea and crocheting in the evenings. On my continuing mission to wear down Stash Mountain, I’m working on Girthsome Grannies and ┬ájumbo sized panels that I’ll join together in the nick of time for Christmas.

As the seasons come and go, and as the children get taller and taller, I’m feeling that the seasons change too often, and too quickly. I really need to enjoy this Autumn, this one needs to be embraced.

I just don’t think you can beat the pride of a child in the simplest things. It’s so endearing.

My girls before and after I told them to smile.

The Lumberjack with his goofy spawn in the background. Teenagers are awesome!

The following panels are made with a 9mm hook and two strands of 4 weight yarn. I’m choosing like colors to work each stripe and simply using HDc stitches. The panels are warm and weighty and will be wonderful to cuddle with on the couch.

Here are the first two panels of a very large blanket for the couch. I have NO idea how they will be arranged yet or how I will join them but I’m having fun zipping through the panels.

Just for giggles I wanted to share this pic of me driving Big Sister nuts. It’s too much fun and it’s too easy. I Love this girl.

Love that you share your family with us and such a beautiful one you have. I’m going to start reading more of your blogs and see what all you are doing. I have made blankets for most of my family but they keep adding more so it’s a never ending thing around my house. I love to crochet and I have enjoyed looking at your pictures of what you have done. Lots of ideas to do just not enough time to do it all! Thanks for sharing your life and family on here. Bless you all!

You have a beautiful family!

Leasa - October 21, 2013 - 5:42 pm

I look forward to seeing how your squares come together for the blanket. How big are they? I always find this time of year makes me want to whip up a blanket or two but they never come together as quickly as I think they should. :)

mary cumpston - October 21, 2013 - 5:45 pm

LOVE all these family pics and I love Fall also. I love pumpkin everything in the fall, and apple pie : ) I really like the colors you use in your granny squares, they are beautiful!

Looks like you had a great time! You’re right–savor the moments because children grow up very quickly! Making memories with family is the greatest way to spend your time! Pumpkin and apple picking in the Fall has been a family tradition since my children were little and now it’s an even bigger event that includes 7 of my eight children, their spouses and significant others, 8 of my 9 grandchildren (1 son’s family doesn’t live nearby).

I always enjoy the posts you do about your family. It gives me a better picture of who you are outside of the “business-y” side of things!

It’s nice to find your blog in my inbox each time you post & I’m glad you’re back to doing it! While I love seeing your new patterns, it’s also enjoyable to know you’re “human” too lol!

Barbara - October 21, 2013 - 7:49 pm

I love the expressions on the faces of the girls in the first picture.

Lacey lady - October 21, 2013 - 7:55 pm

I too look forward to drinking hot tea and crocheting in the fall. :)

Chelsea - October 21, 2013 - 7:58 pm

Fall is my favorite season!! Last year, I crocheted pumpkin hats for my three oldest kids (10, 5, 2) and was thrilled to be able to just add a brown band this year to make them last another one more season. Loved all your pictures of your family enjoying the Bounty of Autumn. :-)

Sandy Heidenreich - October 21, 2013 - 7:59 pm

I love the colors that you made on the pics on the blog. The aqua color pops out against red-orange yarn works really well. Maybe you can make that into a giant scarf in the world?!

Jayme - October 21, 2013 - 8:29 pm

Looks like a fun day! That would be so fun!

Rosalie Cates - October 21, 2013 - 8:39 pm

I love the way you just seem to dive in, full force, with whatever project you start… the crocheted panels, granny squares, or wristwarmers and hats… totally fearless with color choices and design. I imagine your house to be very warm and colorful, with an array of handmade accents… hot off the hooks. Beautiful family!

madme - October 21, 2013 - 8:41 pm

Thank you! I love all those faces so much. My oldest is at that age where she talks about being on her own and it just breaks a little bit of my heart each time.

madme - October 21, 2013 - 8:42 pm

We have a lot of Fall B-days too! Mine, my daughters’ and my Mom’s. And Halloween which we love. Too much fun!

Lynn - October 21, 2013 - 8:42 pm

A fun day with a beautiful family!!

Jenn - October 21, 2013 - 8:43 pm

Ooh… I LOVE Fall! My absolute favorite time of the year! I crocheted a stack of pumpkins, a turkey and a scarecrow as well as an Autumn Wreath to decorate the house with.
Love all the pumpkins your family collected. Looks like you had a blast!

Elaine S - October 21, 2013 - 8:49 pm

Going to the pumpkin farm was a major part of autumn when my kids were growing up. I am sad that my grandchildren live too far away for me to do this with them whenever we feel like it. Those are some awesome green pumpkins…not everyone gets those, so they are special! They grow white ones here, too, and I found some for sale in some farm kid’s front yard the other day for 75 cents each, so I had to grab some to go with my orange ones. Maybe by the time I finish this comment, my slow computer will have finished downloading all your pix … you have the cutest kids! Happy Pumpkin Season to all of you. And yes, I’d love to win a pattern from you :)

madme - October 21, 2013 - 8:49 pm

These panels are about 2 feet long and 18 inches wide. I’m gonna make up a bunch of different sizes and then make filler pieces so it looks like a real handmade ‘quilted’ look. I am really excited about this blanket, and the Girthsome Grannies blankets too. I won’t end up with finished products until Christmas I’m sure!

madme - October 21, 2013 - 8:52 pm

Thank you!! I am blessed for sure.

Elaine S - October 21, 2013 - 9:02 pm

P.S. I need the Simply Mad Throw pattern since that’s the only one I don’t have yet :)

Jonathan - October 21, 2013 - 9:14 pm

i love the change in weather, the fact summer and it’s 100+ degree weather is FINALLY over and we can bundle up. plus, the more blankets on the bed, the better.

madme - October 21, 2013 - 9:18 pm

I love sleeping under a weight of blankets!!!

Beth Hebble - October 21, 2013 - 9:22 pm

I love the before photo of the girls. :) You can see where the life and love in your patterns comes from, it’s spilling in from that lovely happy family. PS. Fall is also my favourite season. :)

Juanita Hetherington - October 21, 2013 - 9:30 pm

Love the bright colors for the panels

Fall is my FAVORITE time of the year, I love the weather. To make it even better this year, I’ve discovered Pumpkin Spice creamer by International Delight for my coffee… I’m in love! :)
You have a beautiful family!!

madme - October 22, 2013 - 8:41 am

Yes. Each panel is going to be a different set of two colors. So LOTS of colors going into it.
